Education background:

Mr. Dennis Ugwuja obtained a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Enugu State University of Science and Technology, (ESUT) Enugu State in 2003, Call to Bar Certificate from the prestigious Council of Legal Education, Nigerian Law School, Abuja, Nigeria in 2005 and Masters Degree in Energy Law and Policy from Center for Energy, Mineral, Petroleum Law and Policy (CEPMLP), University of Dundee, United Kingdom in 2010. He obtained a Certificate of Merit from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 2006. As a lover of Environment and quest for knowledge in Environmental law, he proceeded to Geneva, Switzerland, where he obtained a Diploma in International Environmental Law in 2013. He has Advanced Certificate in Education from College of Education, Veritas University Abuja, Nigeria, 2018.

 

Administrative, Legal and Teaching experience:

Mr. Ugwuja has wide experiences in legal, administration and teaching work with over 18 years of Legal practice. He was a Senior Associate in a law firm of Ogbotobo & Kikile for over 10 years before establishing his personal law firm “Dennis Ugwuja & Co’ in 2016.

He was appointed Assistant Registrar at Veritas University Abuja, where he rose to Senior Assistant Registrar before resigning in 2017 to Academic Staff to teach all Law courses in Veritas University pending when Faculty of Law is established. He was the pioneer Secretary to the school of post graduate studies, Veritas University Abuja. Currently, he is a Lecturer II and pioneer staff at Faculty of Law, Veritas University Abuja, Nigeria.

 

Community Service: He is the founder, President and the Executive Director of the foremost indigenous Non-Governmental Organisation based in Abuja known as Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Initiative (CCMAI). His key interests are; preserving and protecting our mother earth and environment; environmental rights, Justice and advocacy, Tree Planting, Climate Change Education, Mitigation and Adaptation campaign and Renewable Energy. He also appears as a co-guest on a programme called; Rights of Plants and Animals with Professor John Osonwa (Professor of Environmental Law and Climate Change) Human Right Radio (A.K.A.) Brekete Family, Abuja and a regular guest on Climate Change matters at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) International, Headquarters, Abuja.

 

Awards and Appointments:

He was awarded the Best Corps Member Meritorious Award, Bayelsa State and Fellow, Institute of Disaster Management of Safety Science (IDMSS). He is a graduate member, Energy Institute, (EI) London, Member, International Bar Association (IBA) and Member, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA). Team Leader/Driver: United Nations Sustainable Goal 13 (Climate Actions), Veritas University Abuja.

Mr. Ugwuja has attended both local and international conference amongst which are Nigeria Annual Bar Conferences, European Nuclear Liability Law in a Process of Change, a regional Conference held in Berlin, Germany, 2009. He is married and richly blessed with children. His hobbies include; community organizing, reading and news.

Research interest: Environmental Law, Justice, Climate Change and Energy.
